R-MIGRATOR: automatic migration of mods to Ren'Py 8
ROOTWIN released the beta version of R-MIGRATOR, a tool for automatically moving older Ren'Py projects from Ren'Py 7 / Python 2 toward Ren'Py 8 / Python 3. The project was presented to the DDLC modding community as part of the team's tooling line.
On 9 May 2026 ROOTWIN PROJECT released R-MIGRATOR, a beta utility for migrating old Ren’Py projects to Ren’Py 8.
What it solves
Many older DDLC and Ren’Py mods were built on Ren’Py 7 and Python 2. Updating them manually takes time and creates room for repetitive mistakes. R-MIGRATOR automates part of that routine and gives modders a clearer starting point for modernization.
Role in the toolchain
R-MIGRATOR became one of the technical links in ROOTWIN’s Ren’Py workflow, alongside RenDoki and AutoBuild.
